Jewels, as much as I love the precious variety (diamond, ruby, emerald and sapphire), I'm a huge fan of semi-precious jewels, essentially everything else as this includes minerals, rocks and organic material!

A selection of smooth beads made from jewels |
I've been picking up lots of jewels and stones in the last 12 months, both new, in the sales and many preloved beads, I thought I'd just use J to showcase some bracelets that make use of them.

Do you like jewels (precious or otherwise) and if yes, do you have a favourite?
I actually prefer semiprecious stones to precious stones. I just like that rocky look more than the shininess of precious jewels. I don't have a favorite stone but I do love purple!
ReplyDeleteI love purple, so amethysts are one of my favourites. I have a lovely Ruby Rock ring which is a gorgeous sheen of black/purple/green. Jeweller said it was a "bad" example of Ruby Rock but I adore it!
DeleteI love stones generally and the rocky look, I've been picking up some more over the last couple of weeks and it was tempting to show ALL the beads, but as most of my made up bracelets are stones based ones it would have been a lot of faff... although I think I will do so for a future post later on this year when I've time to be a bit more organised, so definitely not April.

I'm with you two in that I prefer the semi-precious ones! The precious ones are pretty, but the others have more depth and character/individuality. Of course, there's also the downside that since each is unique, sometimes you have to have more than one :D
ReplyDeleteYep I'm hearing you on the more than one... ideally I'd have a whole bead box full of stones...

J is for Jealous - of your lovely amethysts!!
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely! As are your pastel agates, did have a peek at the ones Perlen got in but have resisted on the basis that they will sell out soon (probably by now) so I'll be safe! Did say I wouldn't buy dyed stones again but they are so pretty!

I especially like the semiprecious stones in Brazil, have you had a chance to see some of them?
ReplyDeleteAlso we are following you on twitter and sharing your content...have a good #AtoZChallenge month!
Thank you so much, did see the retweet earlier; cheers!
DeleteA to Z is such fun finding all the new blogs to read, your Istanbul did remind me I still have to do the Gypsy festival at some point!

This post is such candy for the eyes! Gorgeous jewelry. I was always a sucker for polished stones as a kid, loving obsidian and hematite especially, and as an adult I grew very fond of amber and jade.
ReplyDeleteThanks, as you can see I love amber and jade, I've just picked up some snowflake obsidian, have always bought that in polished pieces, but never jewellery before. I'd love a hematite bracelet! To be honest I like most stone :D

You have a lovely collection of stones! Admit I'm envious of your retired Cancer zodiac stars as I've been looking for one for a while to complete my family bracelet! Lovely amethysts you have.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mel, I've been extremely lucky with the Cancer zodiac stars, I wasn't collecting when they were released so I've had to hunt high and low for those as they were the hardest to get hold of, but ironically now they are the ones I have most of. A lot of right place, right time in many cases. (Just need to do that with the Chinese Silvers from 2009). Will shout if I see another...
