N is for New Year's Bead Resolutions Update

I toyed with writing N is for New Collections, but given I've covered a few recently and did a post on Trollbead Collection Collages I thought now would be a good time to update my New Year's Bead Resolutions.

My New Year's Bead Resolutions 2014
  • To book myself some Torch Time - this has had to be put to the back of the list indefinitely at the moment.  Regular readers will know I've had some problems with my shoulder and essentially these are going to take a while to recover from so I physically can't do the movements needed for Lampworking at the moment.

  • To focus more on bracelet/bangle/necklace design - I've been doing a lot more of this so far this year and actually working on some long term design ideas too, ones that will take a lot more cash as I don't have the beads I currently need as well as using my current beads more.  I've even sold off some of the ones I can't really see me using, which is a huge step for me!

  • To curb some of my random spending by being more selective with what I buy - I want to buy more "key pieces" or multiples of beads I love, instead of 1 of everything I like (see point above) - This is going well and not so well in equal measures.  On the whole I feel it's going well due to all the multiples I'm buying, the not so well is that some of the choices have been quite random due to 1) the Liquidation Sales and 2) the new uniques - which I love.  Navy Galaxies abound!

  • To continue to seek out new bead makers & brands - New to me this year have been several brands, some of which I've not blogged about yet so I won't spoil the surprise of what's coming up.  Those I have blogged about so far are Ohm, Bali Clicks (which has been getting a lot of love blog wise) and Links of London.

  • To buy some charms for my Story Bracelets - oh yes, thanks to several sales this has been done with bells on!! Next stop on the Story story are watch charms!

  • To spend less on jewellery than I did in 2013 so I can finally get my boilers replaced ;) - Well so far the way the first 4 months of the year are going I'm spending less (actually that's not much to write home about as I spent a lot last year) but more importantly I've been saving more too.  So much so that we've provisionally booked to get our boilers replaced in May.  Fingers crossed we can do it for the quoted price and I can finally stop talking about my Boilers... just as my car is going kaput!

So that's me for now, you're all caught up with my Resolutions and I'm feeling very good about the progress I've made on this list!

Do you make resolutions or goals that you work towards?  If so, what happens?  If not, do you leave it to chance and go with the flow, or do you have another way you do this?

Hit the comments and let me know; I'm always curious about the why and how!

  1. It's an interesting combination. Resolutions don't work for me. I find that what does work is having a strong intention, then detaching from *how* it will come to be. ("HOW do I do that?" has been a favorite question of mine through the years.) This allows for whatever it is to come to me and the how of it to unfold in glorious and quite unexpected ways. As Dr. Joe Dispenza says, "There's a fine line between intention and surrender." I concur. Congratulations on the progress you've made toward your resolutions!

    1. I like your approach, I think there is a lot of merit in having the intention and that is the key to achieving what you want to achieve.

Writing down bead goals has been a relatively new thing for me, I tried it the year before as more of a general wish of the direction I wanted to go in and found it worked really well, so decided to do it again this year. I think it's more about the focus but I find the whole process fascinating.

    1. Thank you, I get a lot of pleasure from designing combinations, and sometimes a lot of frustration but when it clicks it's so satisfying.

  3. Your first go at lampwork beads is wonderful! The colors, the dots, the swirls, yummmmmmy!!!

Boilers vs beads, what a conundrum. The beads can wait. Beads can be a serious financial drain. I try to buy beads during sales. If money were no object, I hate to think about how much I could spend on beads!

Resolutions can be useful, but for me only as a general road map. There are many ways to get to the same place and there is no need to beat yourself up if you choose a different road that maybe meanders more and takes more time but still gets you to where you need to be :-)

I hope your car doesn't go kaput for a long time!

    1. Thanks Liz, I was really pleased with my first attempts and would really like to have another go as I have lots of ideas I'd love to try out in glass but will need to be more patient!

Thanks for the wishes with the car, I hope so too as was finally pleased to be able to book in my boiler work for next month that I was hoping to get a break with the practical stuff!

I buy beads mostly during sales and offers but I've just blown the first month's car fund money on some hard to find let alone buy carved ambers, that are genuine Trollbeads ones. So can now report that as of last night that on track budget stuff has been thrown out the window!

  5. I don't do resolutions really well either. But I resemble your remark about spending less money on supplies. It's so easy to keep buying, When I started silver work, I kept buying all these stones. Kind of went crazy. Then I had to curb my enthusiasm. Love Danielle La Porte for helping with getting clear about desires and feelings - how do you want to feel? Then make your goals (only 3 she suggests each year, that you can do full on, kick butt) rather than a bunch that are half ass. Excuse my French.

    1. To be honest I never really bothered with Resolutions until I started to do them with beads, or bead related spending, not really tried them out elsewhere, however will have a look at Danielle La Porte, *adds to reading list* as she sounds interesting!

I love saying hi to people who've read my blog, or are just passing through via the A to Z, or anyone not a spam bot!

P.s. If you use an iPad/iPhone and are having trouble leaving a comment on Blogger, you might have better luck using a browser that's not the default iPad one... Then from the "Comment as" drop down menu choose Name/Url (you can leave URL field blank or add your web address) or Anonymous and (hopefully) away you go! Mars xx
