O is for Orange

Orange beads, believe it or not, are a colour of bead I used to love to hate.  So in my Addicted to Beads theme orange is something that previously NEVER would have been mentioned, let alone featured.

I'm not sure when the change to love to love happened, I'd always had one orange bead, 6th from right called Pumpkin as I'd bought that quite early on... but it remained my only orange bead for several years.

I think the main shift in my thinking came about when the two types of orange glass faceted beads, (L-R) No's  4,6,10 & 13 were released as part of a Fall Collection, I adored them!

Then followed No.11 an orange flower bead on an almost tie-dyed background... then the Carnelian stone faceted beads, No.3 & 12 and so it continued.

I use the orange beads quite a lot, in fact I had to dismantle one of my favourite bracelets to photograph several of these!

I love this mix of orange with black, green and grey, a great mix of glass, silver and stones.

Have you had any Love to Hate moments/things/themes turn into Love to Love ones?

  1. I'm not a lover of orange and green usually, but that bracelet arrangement is lovely. Hmm is there anything I used to hate that I now love - broccoli comes to mind. Used to hate it, now love it, especially stir fired with sesame oil :).

    1. Food wise mine would probably be mayonaise, used to hate it, love it now! Also black olives, have developed a taste for those later on in life, used to hate them and still not fussed on the green ones!

Broccoli sounds great, love sesame oil :D

  2. Tupilaks!

I thought they were ugly when I first saw them. Really, really, really, reeeeeaaaallly .... fugly. But now I love their oddness and the funny faces on them. The faces beads I thought were weird, but not as much as the tupilaks. I also have two of the faces beads now :D

I also really hated the Honda Element. We called it the Fuglemen. And then somewhere along the way I grew to like it. I even wanted one. But just as I was coming up to buying a new car, I saw that they discontinued selling the manual transmission version. So ... it went back to dislike. And now they've discontinued it entirely.

I hate mini vans. That hasn't changed, even though my husband insisted that we buy one :D (that was the replacement vehicle we bought instead of the Element). He used to hate them and now he drives it every day because I refuse to unless I absolutely have to. He thought I'd be won over. He was wrong (he also though I had enough beads about two years ago ... haha. so wrong ;))

    1. Lol you can keep your Tupilaks, I'm still not fussed ;)

I think your husband underestimates you and you can never have enough beads!

  3. The orange with the black is very effective.

I know one thing that I used to hate, and not even love to hate, because they scared me so much as a child - vampires (I once screamed the house down when the babysitter let us watch Dracula with Frank Lagella because I was so frightened), but then I saw The Lost Boys at age 15 and all that changed, I now love to love vampires in all their forms :D

    1. I think Lost Boys had a lot to answer for, might have to search out DVD, quite fancy watching it again!

  4. I am completely with you, Mars. I used to hate orange, but it now features strongly in a number of my bracelet and bangle designs. For me it was the faceted Royal Orange (which you don't have????) which was released in 2013 which I fell in love with. A few more details here for the really nerdy!

Strange how tastes can change so much!

    1. I actually don't like the Royal Orange, but it was that bead which started to help turn the tide as I had a few friends, namely Alison and Pauline, who did wonderful bangles using 1 and sometimes 2 of those beads.

When it came out, I said I didn't like the faceted glass look. Then when Masala and Saffron came out (the beads I do have for those visiting from A to Z), I decided I did like the faceted beads, but I didn't like them with clear glass over the colour (which is what Royal Orange is for my A to Z readers).

Then the Sahara Night facted came out (clear over black) and I said actually I do like those, perhaps it's not clear over colour I don't like, perhaps it is just Royal Orange after all... and round and round it went! Mind you I quite like how black glass can bleed into clear so maybe it is clear over coloured glass after all!
